Formative study on the utilisation of Past and present learning assessments in Uganda.
ADAPT project focuses on promoting the acquisition of 21st century skills for adolescents by strengthening utilisation of data from learning assessments in curriculum design, adaptation and delivery in East Africa, building on learnings from the ALiVE initiative.
On the 14th and 15th November, JMERC and MakCEES, the implementers of the ADAPT project in Uganda conducted a 2-days’ systems mapping workshop facilitated by a team from ResilientAfrica Network (RAN). The workshop was intended to diagnose surrounding adaptation of assessments into policy and learning and to determine opportunities for ongoing collaboration between stakeholders to strengthen the needs of the system.
In the workshop, we had participant representatives from the Ministry of Education and sports (MoES); National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC); Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB); Uwezo Uganda; STiR Education; Komo Learning Centres; Luigi Giussani Institute; the RELI Hub; Busitema University; District Education Officers (DEOs) FICH Uganda; Makerere University; Secondary schools; etcetera; who;
- Mapped out the ecosystem surrounding adaptation of assessments into policy and learning for acquisition of the 21st Century skills in Uganda;
- Discussed and understood the best practices, success factors (enablers), impacts, challenges and barriers to the utilisation of learning assessments in Uganda;
- Mapped the key actors and networks within the education system in Uganda and elaborated on their connections and utilisation of learning assessments; and;
- Explored the best ways in which to support policy makers and other evidence users at the national level to integrate the ALiVE learning assessments into data driven decisions to improve curriculum design and delivery.
